Florida Approval Code Requirements
- Underlayment Options for Shingles (per FBC 2023 Chapter 15):
- Self-adhering polymer-modified bitumen underlayment (ASTM D1970) over the entire deck.
- Flashing tape over joints + approved underlayment over entire deck.
- Two layers of ASTM D226 Type II or D4869 Type III/IV underlayment installed shingle-style2.
- Product Approval
- Each roofing product must be approved by the Florida Building Commission.
- Example: TAMKO asphalt shingles are approved under FL18355-R11, valid through 2026.
- Installation Standards
- Must follow manufacturer instructions and FBC Chapter 15.
- Fasteners, spacing, and secondary water barriers are strictly regulated
